Police seek witnesses to fatal Easter collision

York Regional Police are seeking witnesses who were driving on Stouffville Road prior to a five-vehicle collision in Richmond Hill that claimed the life of a Newmarket woman on April 1.

At about 6 p.m., police responded to a collision on Stouffville Road between Bayview Avenue and Leslie Street involving a 2017 blue, two-door Lamborghini, a 2010 white Dodge Caravan, a 2009 blue Toyota Corolla, a 2005 silver Toyota Corolla and a 2014 grey Mercedes.

According to police, two additional vehicles were driving in the area at the time of the collision and may have witnessed the collision or the driving behaviour leading up to the collision. Investigators are urging the drivers and any passengers in a dark-coloured Mercedes and a white Ford Edge that were driving east on Stouffville Road at the time of the collision to contact them.

The passenger in the Lamborghini, a 32-year-old Newmarket woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 39-year-old Richmond Hill man, was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the silver Toyota, a 44-year-old Toronto man and the passenger, a 36-year-old woman also from Toronto, were both taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. Their conditions have since improved and they are now stable. The drivers of the other three vehicles each suffered minor injuries.

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who observed the operation of the Lamborghini before the collision. Any witnesses who haven’t yet spoken with police or anyone who may have dashboard camera footage of the collision are asked contact the Major Collision Investigation Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7704, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS or leave an anonymous tip online at 1800222tips.com.
