York Region Chairman Wayne Emmerson joined members of regional council in honouring the life, legacy and contributions of Bob Forhan, former region chairman and Chief Administrative Officer.
“Mr. Forhan’s contributions to the York Region community are immeasurable,” said Emmerson. “Beginning with his time as mayor of Newmarket in the early seventies, proceeding through his time as regional chairman and serving as the region’s Chief Administrative Officer, his leadership helped York Region successfully navigate a period of significant growth and change. His life is an example of what can be achieved when a vision combines with dedication and the love of community.”
Forhan helped to lead York Region for nearly two decades – as chairman for six years beginning in 1978 and as CAO from 1978 to 1995. Prior to entering municipal politics, Forhan helped the Canadian hockey team win a silver medal at the 1960 Winter Olympics. He also competed at the Innsbruck Winter Olympics where the team finished fourth. In 2010, he was one of the seven inaugural inductees to the Newmarket Sports Hall of Fame.
