Newcomers get involved in conversation at the library

Whitchurch-Stouffville Public Library has two great opportunities for English language learners that are free and open to everyone. Join our weekly Conversation Circle on Wednesday mornings from 10:30 a.m. -12:00 p.m. to practice speaking and listening skills in a supportive and social environment.

On November 1s, we will have a special guest speaker talking to the group about cancer prevention through healthy living. There is no need to register to this program, just drop-in every week you can attend. The Conversation Circle meets at the Town Offices at 111 Sandiford Drive in the Ringwood Room while the library is at the temporary location.

If you are interested in a new challenge, meet up with the Reading Club if your English skills are moderate and you’re interested in a variety of thought-provoking topics. This club will read books, articles and have many in-depth discussions in a supportive environment. The Reading Club meets Sundays, 1-2:30pm at the Clippers Complex at 120 Weldon Road. Contact the Library for more information if you are interested in joining the ESL Reading Club.

On top of our ESL programs, we also have a great online learning resource called Mango Language Learning whether you want to improve your English or start learning a new language.  You can access Mango through the library website (www.wsplibrary.ca) or you can download the app to any smartphone or tablet to get started. All you need is your library card to access this great resource that has over 72 languages available to learn. Log in and create an account to track your progress and keep learning.
