Changes to two retirement income programs – the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS) – are part of a move that allows Canadians to access benefits, services and information how, when and where they want.
Employment and Social Development Canada has created an integrated application that allows people to apply for both OAS pension and the Guaranteed Income Supplement at the same time. It’s also modified the application for CPP disability benefits, combining eight stand-alone forms into just two. Those applications, which have simplified instructions and are easier to complete, are now available online.
The changes come as more and more Canadians use mobile devices and web-based applications to access government services.
“We are transforming our service experience to better meet the needs of Canadians,” says Jean-Yves Duclos, social development minister. “This means giving Canadians the option to complete more transactions online using the device of their choice.”
Other e-services available through My Service Canada Account allow: CPP clients to request the Child Rearing Provision online; CPP and OAS clients to change their home address and/or telephone number online, including adding a mobile or work phone number; and Employment Insurance clients to register for Alert Me, an optional notification service that sends an email when important new claim information is available.
