Bringing stability to town hall is among Mayor-elect Iain Lovatt’s top priorities when he takes office, along with other members of Whitchurch-Stouffville’s new council on Dec. 1.
“We are looking forward to beginning a new term of council and helping to serve all of the great residents and businesses of Whitchurch-Stouffville,” Lovatt said, in a statement. “We have already begun the process to build a cohesive council – one that would benefit the entire town and all of our staff.”
Lovatt was previously the Ward 5 councillor. Returning to council are incumbents Ken Ferdinands (Ward 1), Maurice Smith (Ward 2), Hugo Kroon (Ward 3) and Rick Upton (Ward 4). Newcomers Richard Bartley (Ward 5) and Sue Sherban (Ward 6) both previously served as councillors, with Sherban serving as mayor from 2003 to 2006.
The ceremonial inaugural council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 at town hall council chambers. It’s open to the public and all are welcome. There will be reserved seating for invited guests.
The current mayor and council will fulfill their elected duties until Nov. 30, including attending and presiding over a council meeting on Nov. 20.
