The 2020 TD Summer Reading Club at the Whitchurch-Stouffville Public Library (WSPL) kicks off on June 20. The club is sponsored locally by Tiny Seedlings.
The TD Summer Reading Club is Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for children of all ages, all interests and all abilities. This year’s theme is sports.
With the realities of COVID-19, the library has made changes to keep all of its customers safe while participating in the Summer Reading Club which will be held entirely online only this year.
The library will be using a software program and mobile app called Beanstack to keep track of all of the readers, their participation, and successes this summer.
“We are delighted to have children participate virtually in the Summer Reading Club,” says Margaret Wallace, WSPL Chief Executive Officer. “The club is designed to inspire children to explore the fun of reading their way- the key to building a lifelong love of reading.”
As children read throughout the summer, they can record their reading time each day, complete challenges, make crafts, join virtual programming, and provide book reviews on books they have read. These activities enable children to earn tickets that will include them in weekly prize draws.
