Lemonville art show celebrates milestone

The Lemonville Group of Artists 25th Annual Art Show and Sale runs from May 4 to 6 at the Lemonville Community Centre.

In 1994 a new group of artists presented their first exhibition of paintings at the Lemonville Community Centre. The group had formed the year before under the guidance of Stella Coultice and Eileen Christensen. Coultice has since passed away but Christensen and several other original members are still very active, 25 years later.

The, now, 20 members of emerging and established artists meet once a week to share their passion for painting. They explore many areas of art, in a program filled with instruction from their own members and guest instructors. Many days are spent painting, sharing and experimenting with old and new techniques. The largest component of the Lemonville Group is the mutual support and encouragement that members receive from each other.

They have many different styles of work from acrylics to watercolours, mixed media to Sumi-e [Japanese ink paintings] in a wide range of sizes. The community centre is transformed every May, with more than 300 colourful paintings, into a wonderful place to view some amazing work.

The show begins May 4 from 7-9 p.m. and continues May 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no admission charge and light refreshments will be served.

The Lemonville Community Centre is located at 13453 McCowan Road, on the east side of McCowan, half a kilometre south of Bloomington Road.
