Markham-Stouffville GO Transit users can look forward to seeing several improvements to local infrastructure in the months ahead.
The province – through Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario – is releasing a Request for Proposals to a list of teams pre-qualified to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the infrastructure needed for the On-Corridor Works project, the largest capital project in the GO Expansion Program, which will deliver two-way, all-day service every 15 minutes over core segments of the GO Rail network.
“This announcement is great news for residents and businesses who rely on GO Transit,” MPP Paul Calandra says. “These are the kinds of improvements which will help Markham-Stouffville grow.”
Proposals have been requested by Minister of Transportation Jeff Yurek and Minister of Infrastructure Monte McNaughton on May 30 for improvements including:
- Mount Joy GO Station: Work beginning August 2019 (TBC). New platform edge tiles to improve the safety of the platform for all customers, and new digital signage. (Early Station Improvements).
- Markham GO Station: Work beginning June 2020 (TBC). Adding secure bike storage, new platform edge tiles, electrical room upgrades, and new digital signage. (Early Station Improvements).
- Stouffville GO Station: Work beginning June 2020 (TBC). Adding secure bike storage, new platform edge tiles, and new digital signage. (Early Station Improvements).
- Lincolnville Train Layover: This involves the design and construction of three additional tracks to accommodate increase in train-service on the Uxbridge subdivision. The additional tracks are expected to be in-service in 2019. The station facilities and platforms are being relocated south of the Lincolnville layover yard to enhance the passenger experience and improve passenger safety. Estimated completion end of 2019.
“Our government has moved quickly over the last nine months to increase GO Train service for people throughout the region,” Calandra says. “The GO Rail Expansion program will make travelling across the GTHA a faster, easier and more integrated and seamless experience for customers than ever before.”
