All open air burning, including recreational fires is prohibited anywhere within the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville effective immediately and until such time as further advised.
This ban will remain in effect until such time as conditions permit. This ban has been issued for the protection of property, public safety, and the safety of the firefighters that would have to respond to an incident started by the unlawful burning of materials.
This ban applies to all open air burning. Appliances fueled by propane or natural gas, such as BBQs, are exempt.
With seasonal crops being harvested, farmers are encouraged to exercise extreme caution when operating equipment, as field fires can quickly overtake equipment, neighboring crops and these fires can spread quickly into adjacent woodlands.
If you discover an open air burn, it is very important that you report fires immediately to 9-1-1. Do not delay reporting while attempting to control or extinguisher the fire.
All active burn permits are now suspended. No burn permits will be issued until the ban is lifted.
If you have any questions regarding this ban, contact Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire & Emergency Services non-emergency at (905) 640-9595 ext. 6229.
