Celebrate culture, heritage, and diversity in the third annual Diversity Festival, kicking off on Aug. 1.
The festival is hosted every year by the Moksha Canada Foundation, and though this year’s festival will be delivered online due to the pandemic, there will be more activities than ever with events scheduled every Saturday in August.
Sunil Channan, co-founder and president of the Moksha Canada Foundation, says that even though the festival is being hosted online this year, participants will still be able to take part in activities that would have occurred at the in-person festival.
“Everything is still there, not in a big way, but it’s still there,” says Channan. “People will enjoy our festival because our festival isn’t only food or food-oriented. There’s people singing, dancing, telling stories – there’s experiences for everyone.”
Virtual attendees can expect a lineup of singers, dancers, drag artists, puppet shows, and magicians during the five-week festival. New to this year’s festival will be panel discussions that will touch on topics of human rights, racism, multiculturalism, and more. The festival’s popular fashion show will also be brought back this year.
Channan says that Moksha Canada continues to host this festival every year because they want to create an event that is inclusive and unites everyone.
“People are divided, and we want to do something inclusive,” he says. “It doesn’t matter what your language barriers are, what colour, what race. We need to educate people. We need to promote cultural exchanges between communities to unite and bridge the gaps for a brighter tomorrow.”
The Moksha Canada Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that was founded in 2014. The organization focuses on creating programs and activities that promote a safe and inclusive community for people of all backgrounds to live in.
The Diversity Festival will be taking place every Saturday in the month of August, and will be streamed on Moksha Canada Foundation’s Facebook, Instagram, YouTube channel, and website.
