The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville officials say residents should enjoy improved customer service under its new waste collection contract.
Beginning this year, the town, along with other York Region municipalities including Aurora, Newmarket, East Gwillimbury, Georgina and King Township, began a joint venture with Green for Life Environmental Corporation (GFL) to provide curbside collection of garbage, recyclable material, source separated organic material, yard waste and other special waste material.
Under the terms of the deal, an enhanced centralized call centre has been set up to handle public inquiries and complaints related to waste collection. GFL workers will be able to quickly respond and ultimately direct on-the-road personnel to deal with the concern, usually within the same day. The town will be able to monitor the service and listen in on active calls to ensure quality control.
“The updated customer service options will really benefit our residents,” says Rob Flindall, town public works director. “Having a direct line to contact GFL for questions and inquiries will allow residents to get quicker and more accurate responses.”
Another update to the contract includes the delivery of blue and green bins directly to new property owners and the replacement of damaged bins. Residents will no longer need to travel to municipal offices to pick up bins.
Residents can call GFL at 1-866-421-5625 or e-mail [email protected] for assistance with waste management questions or missed collections. The customer service line is open Monday to Friday from 7 am to 7 pm.
