Again this year, a group of volunteers will be providing dinner on Christmas Day to the elderly, shut-ins, and others who may be alone and can make use of the free service.
The event coordinator, Stouffville Ward 2 Councillor Maurice Smith, his wife and a group of dedicated volunteers will start cooking on Christmas Eve.
“Of course the food-prep work starts earlier but we will have the meals ready for delivery by noon on Christmas Day,” said Smith.
The group is still looking for more volunteers to assist, whether it be cooking a turkey (which will be supplied), baking a pie or making a delivery.
“Meals are provided free and last year, our 20th year of providing the service, we delivered just under 500,” added Smith. Funds to pay for the service are raised through donations, including from the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. “We are most grateful for this assistance.”
