Alice Teichert is a multidisciplinary artist. Her practice includes painting, two and three-dimensional text work, printmaking and performance.
Based in Port Hope, she was born in Paris and raised in Brussels before making Canada her home in the mid-eighties. She grew up in a multilingual environment where language, music and art were an integral part of everyday life. Those experiences form the core of her art practice.
Her upcoming solo exhibition, “text’painting,” at the Latcham Gallery, will feature works that focus on how gestural painting can be interpreted like text and how text can be re-imagined as an image. In addition to her paintings and photo collages that explore these themes and ideas, the exhibition will include her 16-part composition s’posin, which includes an audio recording of the artwork being performed.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the ongoing project and guests who attend the opening reception, at 7 p.m. on May 17, will be treated to a short excerpt of the performance by the artist.
