The performances. The music. The ballet. Anne. The classic and iconic story of the lost orphan who is looking to find her place in the world.
There is so much to love and to cherish in this wonderful, awe-inspiring ballet production of Anne of Green Gables by Ballet Jorgen and the star, the incredible Anne, played by the lovely and talented Hannah Mae Cruddas who provides a treat for the senses.
The Review had a chance to chat with her, and what a chat it was. Cruddas took me on a veritable exploration of life, of love, of movement and of the richness of her experience dancing in this ballet as the title character, along with her fantastic co-stars, capturing the essence of the timeless and beloved Anne Shirley (Anne spelled with an e).
Cruddas spoke of her preparation process of re-reading and re-capturing the essence of this character and how different that was from the first time she read the series as a young girl.
While talking to her, you feel as though you are on a great journey of re-discovery of the possibilities in physicality: exploring the body’s movements and capturing Anne’s essence via the medium of ballet – the clasping of the hands, the looking up lovingly and with hope at someone or something she loves, and let us not forget, the breaking of the sleight on Gilbert Blythe’s head.
She has been with Ballet Jorgen for eight seasons, going into her ninth so she is a veteran ballet performer and we love how she puts her heart and soul into each performance.
She shared how Ballet Jorgen is known for its classic storytelling, and we see this clearly in these Green Gables performances.
Do not miss seeing Anne, Diana, Gilbert, Marilla, Matthew and all of these beloved characters in these performances. You will surely be happy you and the family made it out to experience it.
