Former National Hockey League player and Stouffville native son Keith Acton is considering a run for mayor.
Acton, who grew up playing minor hockey in the town and went on to a 15-year playing career in the NHL, said he has been asked several times to run for office in Whitchurch-Stouffville. In response, he is putting together an exploratory committee to determine if he should run.
Acton said he also plans to meet with community members, business people and elected officials to get their opinions on town issues and to see if he has enough support.
A long time assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs after his playing career, Acton currently operates a restaurant in Stouffville and is director of player development with the Stouffville Spirit of the Canadian Junior Hockey League.
