Metrolinx identifies Whitchurch-Stouffville transportation issues in regional plan

Metrolinx has identified several planning and transit improvement projects within Whitchurch-Stouffville in their “Draft 2041 Regional Transportation Plan” (RTP), released in September. The plan guides the work being done to transform the transportation network in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area. Municipal council was updated on those initiatives, which include the electrification of the Stouffville GO train corridor, expansion of the layover facility in Lincolnville and a new Lincolnville GO station at Tenth Line. Fall surveillance finds new blacklegged tick

York Region has completed its active tick surveillance program for the year and confirms one blacklegged tick has been found in the vicinity of Joker’s Hill, located in King Township. “Ticks found through our fall surveillance program have been sent to the national microbiology lab in Winnipeg to determine if it carries the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria that can cause Lyme disease,” said Dr. Karim Kurji, York Region medical officer of health. “York Region Public Health reminds residents and their families to take the appropriate precautions to protect themselves as ticks can be active during colder months when temperatures are above freezing...

Downtown Stouffville revitalization delayed

The revitalization of downtown Stouffville, including upgrading aging infrastructure, Main Street paving and various streetscape enhancements, has been delayed for a year. Whitchurch-Stouffville staff, working in cooperation with the “Downtown Stouffville Revitalization Steering Committee,” made the decision to postpone construction because of financial constraints and to allow for more public consultation. The revitalization project was originally scheduled to be completed in four years. New director of education for York Region District School Board

Louise Sirisko has been appointed the new director of education for the York Region District School Board. Sirisko has been working at the provincial Ministry of Education for about the past three years as director of the branch overseeing special education policy and programs. She began teaching in 1990, in Peel Region, later becoming a vice-principal, a principal and an elementary school superintendent.
