Jane Philpott, MP Markham-Stouffville, got her hands dirty and her feet wet at a ceremonial maple tree-planting and bench ribbon-cutting event this past weekend. The Proudly Canadian event was hosted by residents of Ballantrae Golf & Country Club Recreation Centre in honour of Canada 150.

Philpott did not shy away from the festivities and shortly after delivering an address to attendees, dove into the activities. Also in attendance were Justin Altmann, Mayor of Stouffville and Maurice Smith, Ward 2 Councillor.

Both the maple tree and bench will have inscription plaques that serve as lasting reminders of the occasion. The event also featured a Diversity Wall with messages from residents who have chosen Canada as their home.
