The Latcham Gallery presents Images: 17 Moments from December 14 to January 6.
Each year The Latcham Gallery has the pleasure to host an exhibition of artwork by the graduating Grade 12 art students from Stouffville District Secondary School. This initiative dates back to 1994 and has become a rite of passage for many student artists, providing an opportunity to exhibit their artwork in a professional gallery within their own community. The students work throughout the semester to produce the artwork and work with the gallery’s Curator for the many tasks involved with mounting an exhibition.
“Organizing an exhibition from start to finish is no small task and requires a multitude of skills. It’s really wonderful to see these students work together as a team and have the chance to learn how to prepare, promote, display and write about their artwork,” said Curator, Elisa Coish.
This year’s exhibition is entitled, 17 Moments and speaks to ideas around the notion of time. Under the guidance of the art and design teachers, Onalee Creasor and Sheryl Ng, the students are experimenting with a variety of media including sculpture, installation, painting, drawing and collage. In one such project, each student created a sculpture inspired by the form of a clock, discovering imaginative ways to express the passage of time.
Come and meet the artists at the opening reception of Images: 17 Moments on December 14 from 7 pm to 9 pm. The exhibition runs from December 14, 2017 to January 6, 2018.
The Latcham Gallery is a public art gallery dedicated to exhibiting contemporary art. The Gallery is located on Main Street a few doors down from the Stouffville GO Train Station.
