MP Philpott plants a tree for Canada 150

Jane Philpott, MP Markham-Stouffville, got her hands dirty and her feet wet at a ceremonial maple tree-planting and bench ribbon-cutting event this past weekend. The Proudly Canadian event was hosted by residents of Ballantrae Golf & Country Club Recreation Centre in honour of Canada 150. Philpott did not shy away from the festivities and shortly after delivering an address to attendees, dove into the activities. Also in attendance were Justin Altmann, Mayor of Stouffville and Maurice Smith, Ward 2 Councillor. Grab your bicycle for Bike Month

Coinciding with the warm spring weather is Bike Month happening across York Region. Bike Month starts on May 29 and continues until June 30 with many rides and events happening across the region. Events include Bike to Work Day and Bike to School week starting on May 29. Bike to School Week event expands on the success of Bike Month and on inspiring initiatives among local schools and community partners. Local Honda dealership celebrates grand opening

Stouffville Honda makes its opening official with a big grand opening celebration. Local manager Dave Robitaille was joined by Dealer Principal Kevin Pearson and Honda Canada president and CEO Dave Gardner for the formal festivities. The dealership increases the Stouffville Automall dealership count up to five and more likely to come. Strawberry Festival brings the community together

Come out for some food, crafts and fun at the 33rd annual Whitchurch-Stouffville Strawberry Festival. This year, the local festival will be taking place from June 30-July 2. Protection from unfair rent increases

The Ontario government has passed legislation to help keep rental housing affordable and predictable for individuals and families in York Region and across the province by protecting tenants from unfair rent increases. The Rental Fairness Act, 2017 expands rent control to all private rental units, including those occupied on or after November 1, 1991. Effective April 20, 2017, landlords cannot raise rents more than the rent increase guideline, which is 1.5 per cent in 2017. Any rent increase notices above this amount given on or after April 20 must be reduced to 1.5 per cent. The legislation also introduces...
